Tutorials skipping and doing

Post by admin »

Lots of bad words have been spoken BUT...
Players can enjoy (almost) the full pre-CU tutorial. I say almost, as there are a couple of bits to sort out. Firstly, we get a waypoint in the middle of the first room (rude the CU tutorial), next, we get all professions' starter items, which are hopefully easy fixes.

If you choose, you can skip to Tatooine and start your adventure. This is where the swearing came in,
The first plan was to fully bring back the pre-CU tutorial, skipped hall and all, but this proved next to impossible (with my skill set at least), given I want to keep some elements of the NGE (mainly combat), I've kept the npe.skippedtutorial methods but added some checks to add starting skills and inventory items (and money) this allows the adventures to start with a speeder, and build up some levels.

For now, the level system is looking at your combat experience. We still need to do some testing on the calculations on this to see if the level goes down when you spend XP on skills ( it didn't when I tried it, so it can stay as it is for now)

That's a few weeks of grind. Next, we revisit attributes. I added the mind back in, for it's done some funny things. We also need to look at all the weapons and see what they do to the other attributes.

The NGE took 9 attributes down to 6. We will add them back. Though I always thought it odd that 0 mind could kill you, so the plan is to use it like an action pool (EG, heavy weapon 1 needs 20 mind to fire, 0 mind - no use ). What do you think?

We're almost got this playable, need a few bugs to be worked out, and some fine-tuning. But I@ve put a small video on YouTube

This is a really interesting approach to balancing the pre-CU and NGE elements while still keeping the gameplay functional and accessible. Allowing players to skip directly to Tatooine while preserving starter gear and progression mechanics seems like a good compromise for both new and returning players. The idea of reworking attributes, especially bringing back “mind” as an action-related resource, is also intriguing and could add more depth to combat decisions. It sounds like a lot of careful iteration is still needed, but the direction definitely has potential for a more flexible system.

Thanks, I've been thinking about how to progress, as I made a bit of a mistake that I struggled to undo.

There may be a massive task to bring the mind back. I definitely think there is a compromise to be had
